Do I really need an attorney for a simple traffic ticket?

Most likely.  Although you have the right to appear before the judge yourself (and we encourage you to do that if you don’t opt to retain a lawyer–don’t just pay your ticket), hiring an attorney insures you the best defense, and that your rights as a driver in Nevada are upheld.

For simple traffic tickets, like speeding or running a red light, hiring Traffic Ticket Defenders to handle your ticket also guarantees you NO POINTS, NO TRAFFIC SCHOOL and NO INSURANCE INCREASE!

For more serious matters, like criminal charges and DUIs, the court may ask you to retain an attorney.  Even if they do not, it is in your best interests to have an experienced attorney defending you.  Nevada laws can be complicated, and it’s important to be sure all of your rights are defended. If you’ve been charged with a criminal misdemeanor or felony, click here for more details.  For DUI, click here.

How long does the entire process take?

It depends on which court you were cited by, and what you are charged with.  Each court in the Valley has a different process, and as you might imagine, every court is very busy.  Your ticket may be heard within a couple weeks of retaining our service, or, if the court is especially busy, it may be 2 or more months.  We always contact the court immediately to reschedule your court date, so you never need to worry about late fees. Once the court has assigned you a new date, we will email you to let you know what the date is, so you will know what to expect.

Keep in mind, any fines you may owe are not due until 30-60 days after we appear, so if the court calendar is busy, this gives you more time before you have to pay your fines.

Will I have to go to court?

Not in most cases.  The vast majority (95%) of our cases can be handled completely by the attorney on your behalf.  Of course every matter is unique and we will be able to let you know what to expect before you retain our services.

What does it cost?

Again, it depends.  Traffic tickets start as low as $50, but every case is different.  Call for a free consultation or simply send us your ticket information by clicking here.  We will look up your ticket and either call or email with a quote.

Will I still have fines if I hire an attorney?

In most cases, yes, you will still owe something to the Court.  However, in many instances the fines are reduced  and it is quite common to have the fines substantially reduced or even dismissed if you are charged with multiple violations. We routinely save our clients more money in fine reductions than the fee we charge to represent them.

How do I pay my fines?

Once your ticket has been heard by the court, we will send you a letter and an email with all the information you need to pay your fine.  Most Las Vegas area courts allow you to pay fines on-line or over the phone, or you can mail a check or money order, or drop it off personally.  For each traffic ticket, the letter and email you’ll receive from us will have all the information you’ll need to pay any fine due.

What if my ticket is already past due?

Depending on which court your citation was issued from, your ticket may have gone into Bench Warrant or Collections status, which generally means additional court fees have been added.  The best way to find out the current status of your past due ticket is to give us a call immediately. We will look up your case and let you know what your options are.  If your ticket has gone to Bench Warrant we can, in most cases, have your warrant quashed the same day. If your ticket is past due, but not yet in warrant status, we will contact the Court immediately and prevent the warrant from being issued.
