The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced that they will be conducting a DUI checkpoint between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. in the South East portion of the Las Vegas Valley. The specific intersection has not been announced, however both Flamingo Rd. at Paradise Rd. and Boulder Highway at Tropicana Ave. have served as common checkpoint locations in the recent past. Desert Inn Rd. heading eastbound from the Las Vegas Strip may also see increased enforcement and delays. The officers will be focused on identifying driver’s under the influence of both alcohol and/or illicit drugs.
This particular intersection chosen has seen a total of 26 traffic incidents, drunk driving arrests, and other “events” in the past six (6) months leading Las Vegas Metro Police to focus its enforcement efforts there.
Although alcohol may be the main focus of the DUI checkpoint, the number of arrests for “drugged” driving, including being under the influence of prescription medications has increased significantly in the last year and will remain a point of emphasis. Driver’s are advised to use caution in the area and plan for some delays in traffic.
If you are impaired to any degree, please designate a driver, call a cab or summon an Uber/Lyft driver and most importantly be aware of other drivers on the road that may not have been as careful planning ahead and may be driving under the influence.
